April 2017 Writing Goals Review and May 2017 Writing Goals

It’s May! I’m not even sure what happened to April. I feel like I’ve missed a whole month. Sadly, I didn’t do so well with my writing goals. In fact, April was the worst month, so far, for my writing goals. However, April wasn’t all bad. My writing group launched our World War Two anthology titled From Sunrise to Sunset, which required a lot of my time, but I’m happy it’s finally out there for all to read.

So, with another new month, it’s time to review my April goals and to make some goals for May.

So, what were my April writing goals? Well, my April writing goals were:

Writing Goal 1: Finish novel 3rd draft

Result: Yeah, that never happened. I managed to edit a chapter. I am worried about my novel now. I had hoped to have a submission ready novel by the end of 2017, but it’s May, and I’m still only on the third draft. I’m not going to give up, though. I plan to continue working towards my goal, and hopefully, a magical editing fairy will appear and help me to edit my novel.

Writing Goal 2: Finish planning my psychological horror novella

Result: Again, this didn’t happen. But I have started reading novellas that I listed on my ‘The Novella Challenge’ post. I’m currently reading Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Last month it was difficult to get any work done in the evening, which is when I work on my novella, but I plan to pull my socks up and get this novella sorted so I can start writing (the fun part).

Writing Goal 3: Write the first drafts of 7 flash fictions for my flash fiction collection

Result: I managed to write three flash fictions. Like my novella, I write in the evening, and because I’ve not had much time during the evening, I’ve not had time to write the seven flash fictions.

Writing Goal 4: Work on ideas for next novel

Result: I’ve not worked on my novel, but because I’ve nearly finished my flash fiction collection, I might finally have some time. I’m not stressing too much about this, though.
As you can see, I’ve not done much in April, but I’m hoping to achieve more in May. I just need help from the motivation and editing fairies.

So now it’s May I have a list of new goals that I hope to achieve.

My May Writing Goals

  • Finish 3rd draft of my novel
  • Finish planning my psychological horror novella
  • Finish Flash Fiction Collection – 4 stories
  • Work on ideas for next novel
  • Submit to two story submission calls

In May, I have decided to work on my short stories again. There were two flash fiction submission calls that I couldn’t resist. However, my main focus will again be my novel, novella, and flash fiction collection. Fingers crossed I do more this month than last month.

I hope everyone is doing well with their writing. And remember, something is better than nothing.

Keep writing, folks!
