I am feeling better this week (writing wise) things seem to be going along nicely. My first Horror Tree blog post is up, and soon to be followed by another. It’s not long until my story goes live, 30 days and counting. I’m editing my stories, planning new ones, and drafting one. Things have started to come together, and I’m hoping things will only get better.
For so long I’ve felt unsure that I was doing the right thing. Self-doubt had made me question my ability to achieve this dream. Now my dream is clearer: I dream of my book in Waterstones being bought by keen readers, my readers. My desire burns so brightly that I have even caught a glimpse of the old Nicole, who was prepared to fight for what she wanted. It’s scary and exciting all at the same time; however, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I still have a long way to go. I have stories to perfect, stories to submit, oh and let’s not forget a novel to write, but I think I’m ready.
So what are the stories I’m working on, you ask? Well, one of the stories is a psychological horror – I’m working on making the story darker, but I’m hoping to have it finished and submitted by next week. The story I’m writing is a zombie story. Yeah, I know, oh no, not zombies, but this story is about a warring family and how they deal with a zombie apocalypse. I wrote one scene and thought, wow, that’s powerful. The emotions were running high. If I get this right, and it is published, it would be great motivation for my novel.
One thing I’ve noticed about submission calls is that vampires, werewolves, and zombies are not wanted. It’s a shame because I think there is still room for them maybe they need to become scary again and less romantic. I watched a film once that dealt with the issue of what if most of the population were vampires and humans were running out, leaving them with a question: What would they feed on? It was an interesting approach and something worth considering.
