It’s July. Yes, you’ve read that right. Another month in 2017 has gone, and we can never get it back. The months are going by that quickly that they are starting to blur into one another. It doesn’t feel that long ago that I sat and prepared my 2017 writing goals. But one must not dwell on the past six months because they are gone. Instead, now’s the time to focus on the next month, but before I do, I’m going to review my June writing goals.
So, what were my June writing goals? Well, my June writing goals were:
- Writing Goal 1: Finish 3rd draft of my novel
Result: Sadly, I haven’t managed to finish the third draft of my novel; however, I have edited 36 chapters out of 72 chapters, so I’m halfway there. If I keep at my current pace, I might finish my novel by the end of July, but it will definitely be finished by the end of August. Things haven’t gone exactly to plan – I’ve had many distractions – but there’s still hope that I can finish the novel this year. - Writing Goal 2: Finish planning my psychological horror novella and start writing
Result: Again, this didn’t happen. I forgot that I needed to work on my settings, so even though I have finished my character profiles, and the plot is nearly sorted, I still have a lot of work to do. This task should be finished before the end of July, though (fingers crossed). - Writing Goal 3: Finish Flash Fiction Collection – edit 10 stories
Result: I haven’t finalised ten stories for the collection, but I do have five fully edited stories. Last month I often spent more time on my novel than planned, which means I didn’t have time left for my flash fiction collection. However, I am hoping to do better this month. - Writing Goal 4: Work on ideas for next novel
Result: Due to still planning my novella, I’ve not had time for my next novel. I do need to hurry up, though, because I want to do NaNoWriMo this year. - Writing Goal 5: Submit one short story
Result: Yes, I completed this goal. I submitted a story to this year’s FlashFlood. This wasn’t the story I originally planned to submit, but I couldn’t miss the FlashFlood (I enter every year). Sadly, my story wasn’t accepted, but I do plan to try to place the story somewhere else.
As you can see, June hasn’t gone to plan, but I am moving closer to achieving my goal, it’s just at a slower pace than I wanted. I’m still struggling to stay motivated, but I will continue to fight because I haven’t come this far to fail now.
So now it’s July I have a list of new goals that I hope to achieve.
My July Writing Goals
- Finish novel 3rd draft
- Finish planning my psychological horror novella and start writing
- Finalise 10 stories for flash fiction collection
- Work on idea for next novel
- Submit a story
You’ll notice that July’s goals are the same as June’s (and the same as May’s lol), but I am determined to complete these tasks – I’m just not sure when I will be able to get them done. But I’m moving forward, and even at a snail pace, I will finally reach the finish line.
I hope everyone is doing well with their writing.
Keep writing, folks!
