September was a busy month; I wrote, edited, and submitted more stories than before. While I’m pleased with how I managed the challenge, sadly I was unable to find the time to keep my blog up to date. But now I’m back and here to share my writing experiences so far.

So what’s new? Well, I’m planning to do this year’s NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I decided to take the challenge this year because I thought it would be a good experience, and I need a jump start for my second novel. I want to get this novel written as quickly as possible because I had originally planned to try to get my first novel published next year, so I will now need to play catch-up. I’m excited to get started. I’m hoping I’ll complete the challenge, and soon be on my way to another novel.

After spending September writing stories for submission calls, I have now decided to leave the submission calls and concentrate on my story ideas. I have so many things to concentrate on. I have a short story collection to write, also my writing group assigned homework has helped me create stories, which I feel are better than the ones I do for the submission calls. I’m not saying that I’ll never write for a submission call again, but my priority at the moment will be my other stories.

Writing has changed my life. I’m doing things I thought I would never do: writing a novel, getting stories published, and guest blogging. It has enabled me to meet and interact with new people either online or face to face. I now have a purpose, my confidence is growing, and hope is restored. The constant rejections can bring you down, but I’ve realised that I have already gained so much from starting this journey, and I hope more good things follow because I am prepared to fight and reach my end goal. However, I mustn’t allow the dream of being published to blind me to the real reason I write because it’s that that will give me the strength and determination to keep going.

Keep writing, folks!
