NaNoWriMo and NaNoEdMo 2018

November is soon upon us, and that can only mean one thing for writers from all over the world: it’s NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) time.

NaNoWriMo is where writers pledged to write at least 50,000 words of their novel in November. I first heard about NaNoWriMo in 2013, and in 2014 I decided to take part. You can read about my preparation for the 2014 NaNoWriMo in my blog post titled ‘It’s NaNoWriMo Time’. Since then I have not taken part in NaNoWriMo. Instead, I would spend November doing NaNoEdMo (National Novel Editing Month), which involved me aiming to edit 50,000 words of the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo.

Now with 2018 here, my goal was to try NaNoWriMo again and work on my next novel. However, I’ve not done enough planning for the novel to be able to start writing, and since I’m also not doing well with editing my novel, I have decided to do the NaNoEdMo challenge in the hopes that I can finally finish the fourth draft of my novel.

So that’s my plan for November, but instead of editing 50,000 words, I am aiming to edit 50 chapters. It’s a challenge that might send me loopy, but I desperately need to get this fourth draft done, so I can move on to the fifth draft, then the sixth and then finally have a submission ready novel. Pray for me, guys.

I’ll be sharing my NaNoEdMo journey on my website and social media sites, so stay tuned for that. Don’t be surprised if you see plenty of crazy rants —editing can make writers lose their minds.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo or NaNoEdMo this year? If you want to try NaNoEdMo, then do let me know because it’s not just the NaNoWriMo writers that need support. We NaNoEdMo writers need to stick together.

No matter what you decide to do in November, I wish you all the best of luck, and I hope you all manage to reach your NaNo goals.

Keep writing, folks!
