It’s November, and we now only have two months left in 2017. I had so many goals for this year, but I’m sad to say that I won’t achieve many of them. It’s been a difficult year for many reasons, and my writing has had to take a back seat. But I won’t give up because I can still achieve a lot in two months.
October, well, I don’t even know what happened during that month. One minute it was the 1st October, and then the next October was finished. I had hoped that after a good start in September that I could carry that through to October, but that didn’t happen.
So, what were my October writing goals? Well, my October writing goals were:
- Writing Goal 1: Novel 4th draft – edit 40 chapters
Result: I struggled to find time to work on my novel, so I didn’t achieve this goal. Due to this, I have decided to do NaNoEdMo again in the hopes that I can finally sort out the fourth draft of my novel. - Writing Goal 2: Write my psychological horror novella
Result: I started writing, but as with the novel, I couldn’t find the time to sit and concentrate on the novella. So I can finally write this novella, I’ve decided to write my novella for NaNoWriMo instead of my next novel. - Writing Goal 3: Finalise 4 stories for flash fiction collection
Result: I didn’t work on any of my flash fiction stories in October. This is one project that always has to be put on hold, but I’m hoping I can work on this during November. I want to have twelve of the flash fictions completed this year, so I can create my e-book sample of my flash fiction collection. - Writing Goal 4: Supernatural mystery series book 1 – plan and finish village building
Result: I had originally planned to write this novel during NaNoWriMo, but I wasn’t able to complete the plot planning and village building. Because this book will be part of a series, I have to do a lot more planning, especially with creating the village. Therefore, I’m giving myself more time to plan the novel. - Writing Goal 5: Submit 3 short stories
Result: I nearly submitted one short story, which is the story that I spent a lot of time working on, but when I came to submit the story, I noticed that the stories had to be posted and not emailed. Sadly, the day I noticed this was the deadline date, so I wasn’t able to submit the story. This is why it’s important to read the submission guidelines way before the deadline – lesson learned. - Novel – edit 50,000 words (part of NaNoEdMo)
- Write my psychological horror novella (part of NaNoWriMo)
- Supernatural Mystery Series – Plan and finish village building
- Submit 4 short stories
- Writing 2 short stories (part of NaNoWriMo)
- Flash Fiction Collection – finalise 3 stories
So, now it’s November, it’s time to create some new writing goals.
My November Writing Goals
November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and National Novel Editing Month (NaNoEdMo) for me, so this month I have NaNoEdMo and NaNoWriMo goals. I recently wrote a post titled ‘NaNoWriMo and NaNoEdMo – Doing it Differently this Year’ where I shared how I planned to do NaNoWriMo a little differently this year. Instead of writing a novel, I plan to write two short stories and my novella. I also plan to take part in NaNoEdMo and edit 50,000 words of my novel. With having trouble completing my goals, especially with the novella and novel, I’m hoping taking part in NaNoWriMo and NaNoEdMo will help to motivate me to complete these goals.
As well as my NaNoWriMo and NaNoEdMo goals, I’m also going to finish planning my next novel, which is part of the supernatural mystery series, submit four short stories, and finalise three stories for my flash fiction collection. So, as always, I have a lot planned for this month, but I’m hoping I can do better with my goals this month.
