On Tuesday 7th February 2017, my fellow Oldbury Writing Group members and I took part in another book reading of our soon to be released World War Two anthology titled From Sunrise to Sunset at Wednesbury Methodist Church.
Thanks to our member Dave, we were invited by the Wives Methodist Group to read a selection of poems from our anthology. When we first arrived, I expected a small audience. So I was surprised to see that we had an audience of twenty-four people – this is the biggest number of people that I have ever read my work out too.

Our audience included some who lived through World War Two, so it was encouraging to hear a murmur of approval every time we finished reading our poems.
After we each read out two pieces, we then took part in a Q&A session. The audience asked us what inspired our pieces, how we did our research, and what interesting facts we found out about the war. An insightful discussion about war and its cruel consequences then followed.

I have taken part in a many book reading events now, but last Tuesday was the first time I had ever felt like an author. It was an amazing experience to sit there and share my work (I stood, I read better when I stand), and have people – people who you have never met before – show so much interest in your work.
It was an amazing experience, and I can’t wait for our book launch and tour. You know, I’m so happy that I started writing again – it was the best decision I have ever made.
