On the 8th October 2016, the Oldbury Writing Group will be taking part in the West Bromwich at War event at the Central Library. The event starts at 11 am, and we will be reading out a selection of poems and short stories from our World War Two anthology titled, From Sunrise to Sunset.
This World War Two anthology is our first published collection, and we have all put in a lot of hard work and effort to complete this book. Our anthology focuses on all the different kinds of people who lived through World War Two: we have Americans, Germans, British, Indian, Caribbean, Polish, pilots, prisoners, soldiers, wives, children, and much more.
Even though I am excited to take part in the event, I am also very nervous. Due to our event being part of a larger event (West Bromwich at War), I fear that we will have a much larger audience than many of us will be used to: I have only ever read my stories out to about ten people, and that was nerve-wracking enough. So the thought of standing in front of a bigger audience with all their eyes staring at me makes me feel a little sick. However, I will not allow my fears to stop me from presenting my work. This will be a perfect opportunity to set self-doubt on fire. I’ll keep you posted on how well the event goes – fingers crossed it goes well.
