September 2017 Writing Goals Review and October 2017 Writing Goals

Wow, I can’t believe it’s October already. I know I always say this, but the months are flying by. I feel like the last two weeks of September whizzed past in a blur. So, what happened during September? The first two weeks went well. While having my break from my novel, I was able to edit and submit two short stories and spend time working on my other projects. But things went downhill during the last two weeks of September thanks to illness and other distractions.

So, what were my September writing goals? Well, my September writing goals were:

  • Writing Goal 1: Start novel 4th draft – edit 26 chapters
Result: After my two-week break, I was ready and eager to start on the fourth draft of my novel, but, as I stated above, the last two weeks of September didn’t go so well, and I ended up not doing very much. I wish I could say I managed to finish a chapter, but I even struggled to do that. I knew the fourth draft would be difficult, but I didn’t realise that it would be so difficult that I would spend hours staring at a page filled with words that need to make sense. I’m still determined to complete it, though; I just hope October is a better month.
  • Writing Goal 2: Finish planning my psychological horror novella and start writing
Result: I finally finished planning my novella. I wish I hadn’t taken so long, especially as I need time to plan my novel for this year’s NaNoWriMo, but I’m happy to say that it is finally done. Sadly, I didn’t start writing the novella, but I still have October to have it written before NaNoWriMo.
  • Writing Goal 3: Finish Flash Fiction Collection – finalise 8 stories
Result: I didn’t work on any of my flash fiction collection stories. As always, I couldn’t find the time to work on them, but I’m not giving up on this collection. It’ll just take longer to complete than planned.
  • Writing Goal 4: Plan supernatural mystery series book 1
Result: Since I had to spend the whole of September working on my novella, I didn’t have time to plan my next novel. This means I now only have a month (well, less than a month now) to finish planning the plot and creating the village for my novel series – I do like to make things difficult for myself.
  • Writing Goal 5: Submit 3 short stories
Result: I managed to submit two short stories. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I missed the deadline for the third short story. But I’m still glad that I submitted the two stories – something’s better than nothing.
  • So, now it’s October, it’s time to create some fresh (or not so fresh) writing goals.

    My October Writing Goals

    • Novel 4th draft – edit 40 chapters
    • Write my psychological horror novella
    • Finalise 4 stories for flash fiction collection
    • Supernatural mystery series book 1 – plan and finish village building
    • Submit 3 short stories

Again, I have big goals for this month, but they need to be big if I want to achieve my 2017 writing goals. As always, I hope I do better this month, and while this might not happen, I know I won’t stop trying until I succeed. Wish me luck, folks.

How are you doing with your writing goals? I hope you’re doing well. Feel free to comment below either way. I’d love to hear how everyone else is doing.

    Keep writing, folks!
