The End of NaNoEdMo

Wow, November is over already. It feels like I blinked and the month was finished. So with the end of November, it also means that it’s the end of NaNoEdMo (and NaNoWriMo). I would like to say that I’m celebrating reaching my goal (completing the third draft of my novel), but sadly, I didn’t reach that goal. However, I am still celebrating because I edited 10% of my novel, which is still an achievement.

I struggled with NaNoEdMo this year. I often left my novel aside to focus on other things, which is what I did before NaNoEdMo. However, I wouldn’t have completed the 10% if I hadn’t taken part in NaNoEdMo, so it wasn’t a complete failure. The main reason why I neglected my novel is that the third draft of a novel takes more time to do than the second draft, and it requires more motivation, which is something that I’m lacking. I think I need to write some new stories. My mood always drops when I’ve not written anything new for a long time. I’m planning to create a flash fiction collection, so I think I’ll write stories for that project.

So what now? Well, I plan to continue with the third draft of my novel. I’m not sure how long it will take, especially if I continue at this slow pace, but I’m determined that my novel will be finished this time next year. I need to start sending it out and start working on my next novel, which is screaming for my attention. I’m also going to be returning to editing my short stories. There are some submission calls that I want to send my work to. I have lots to keep me busy, but this time, I will make sure that my novel is my priority.

I hope everyone else has reached their NaNoEdMo or NaNoWriMo goals, but if not, don’t worry, you’ll get there eventually. And any success you’ve had should be celebrated: it doesn’t matter how small the achievement is. We are all NaNo winners.

Keep writing, folks!
