True Crime and Paranormal Podcasts I Listen To

Last year I was introduced to the podcast world when I was researching mindfulness. I found an interesting podcast called The Mindful Kind, which offers great tips and advice on how to be more mindful. However, I didn’t stop there.

I soon discovered different podcasts on a range of topics. And the ones that gripped me the most were the true crime and paranormal podcasts.

Since I’m a horror and crime writer, these podcasts are a great way to get story ideas. However, if you scare easily, don’t listen to these podcasts while you’re alone at home.

To listen to these podcasts, I use an app called Player FM—you can download the app for free from Play Store. However, you can listen to the podcasts on Spotify or any other podcast playing app.

So, let’s get to it—here is a list of the true-crime and paranormal podcasts I listen to:

  1. Haunted Places – Parcast Network

Haunted Places is hosted by Greg Polcyn. Greg takes you on an audio tour of haunted houses, haunted islands, haunted cemeteries and so much more. Every episode brings you the real backstory, spooky legends, tales of the supernatural and weird histories. Haunted Places is part of the Parcast Network, and you’re treated to a new episode every Thursday.

I enjoy listening to this podcast, even though it creeps me out when listening to an episode when I’m home alone. Many of the episodes are over 40 minutes long, but there are some shorter episodes.

You can also find urban legends on this podcast, such as the licked hand, the Bunnyman, the Hook and the babysitter and the man upstairs.

  2. The Grave Talks | Haunted, Paranormal & Supernatural

The Grave Talks is a weekly paranormal show, which is hosted by Tony Brueski. Each week Tony interviews a guest who shares their experiences with ghosts and the spirit world.

On this podcast, you’ll hear a range of stories: paranormal, demonic, supernatural, haunted houses, ghost investigations, possession, and the unexplained.

Most of the episodes are over 40 minutes long, but you will find some that are shorter. I must warn you, some interviews are split in two and to listen to the second half, you have to become a Grave Keeper.

The episode I have found the most interesting so far is the interview with Christopher Edward McKinnell, who is Ed and Lorraine Warren’s grandson. Sadly, it was one of the episodes where you have to be a Grave Keeper to hear the full interview. However, the first part was still fascinating.

  3. Real Ghost Stories Online

Real Ghost Stories Online is a daily paranormal podcast hosted by Tony Brueski—he also hosts The Grave Talks. Each episode contains real stories by real people about hauntings, demonic activities, ghost investigations plus so much more.

Listeners can call in or email their real ghost or supernatural tales to Real Ghost Stories Online for a chance to hear them on the podcast.

Each episode ranges from 13 to 43 minutes.

  4. Real Paranormal Activity – The Podcast / Network

Real Paranormal Activity (or RPA for short) is a podcast where real-life paranormal experiences are told. Aaron Hunter is the host for the show.

Aaron was a sceptic until he experienced his own paranormal activity in 2010. He now allows his listeners to join him in exploring the realms of possession, shadow people, haunted houses, cursed objects, demonic activity and more.

The podcast also provides interviews with paranormal investigators, psychics, authors, mediums, and so much more.

RPA has four shows for you to enjoy. And three of those have different hosts, see below for details:

    • Monday’s: Real Paranormal Activity – The Podcast
    • Tuesday’s: Aaron’s Horror Show with Aaron Frale
    • Wednesday’s: Terry’s Mysterious Moments with Terry From Texas
    • Every Other Thursday: The Sandman Lullaby with Patrick Shawn
  5. Strictly Stalking – Kast Media

Strictly Stalking is a true-crime podcast that focuses on stalking. Jaimie Beebe and Jake Deptula host the show. Each week the hosts talk about stalking cases and interview stalking victims, perpetrators and anyone else involved in a stalking case.

The episodes range from 30 to 55 minutes long. And they deal with all different types of stalking.

My third novel idea will involve stalking, so this will help my research.

  6. Southern Fried True Crime – Erica Kelley

Southern Fried True Crime is hosted by Erica Kelley and allows listeners to explore historical and recent true crime in the American South.

The podcast episodes range from 30 to 90 minutes. In this podcast, Erica tells stories of brutal murders, wrongful convictions and unsolved crimes that happened in the Deep South.

You can expect to be treated to a new podcast at least once a week.

  7. Nighttime – Jordan Bonaparte / Curiouscast

Nighttime is an audio documentary podcast series hosted by Jordan Bonaparte. This podcast takes listeners on a journey through Canada’s most fascinating mysteries, true crime stories and strange events.

Nighttime’s episodes range from 20 minutes to 80 minutes, and you’ll be treated to a new episode at least once a week.

  8. Supernatural with Ashley Flowers – Parcast Network

Supernatural with Ashley Flowers is a new podcast that dives into the world’s most bizarre true crime cases where the facts don’t lead to a logical explanation. The show’s host, Ashley, invites listeners to join her on her quest to explore the theories around these mystifying cases.

Presently, each episode is between 30 and 40 minutes long, and you’ll find a new podcast episode every Wednesday.

I’ve only listened to one episode: The Lead Masks Case. But it was enough to make me want to listen to more—this is an ideal podcast for science fiction, crime and horror writers.

  9. Serial Killers – Parcast Network

Serial Killers is a podcast hosted by Greg Polcyn and Vanessa Richardson.

Every Monday and Thursday, you can join the hosts as they—using in-depth research—look into the mind, methods and madness of the most notorious serial killers.

These episodes are roughly between 30 and 60 minutes. So, if you want to join discussions about The Boxcar Killer, The Zodiac Killer, Joel the Ripper and Candy Man, this podcast is for you—this is certainly a podcast that will benefit crime writers.

So there you have it, my list of the true-crime and paranormal podcasts I listen to. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
