For the festival, we will be working with Ian Henery – who is the Walsall Poet Laureate, Black Country Bugle Ambassador, and Walsall Poetry Society Ambassador – on his Scout on a Bike poetry workshop and open mic. For the workshop, we will challenge visitors to write a poem on the theme of the Wolverhampton motto: ‘Out of Darkness Cometh Light’. And the Oldbury Writing Group will be taking the challenge of reading a community poem.
As excited as all of this is, I can’t help but feel terrified at the idea of standing in front of so many people. However, this is a great opportunity for the group, especially with our World War Two anthology coming out, so I can’t allow fear to stop me from participating. I will do my best, that’s all I can do.
I have had so many new experiences since I started this writing journey, and many of the experiences have happened because I joined a writing group. When I started writing, I never thought I would be doing a book tour with my writing group, reading my work out during events, and I definitely wouldn’t have thought I would be involved in a literature festival. It’s amazing what can happen when you follow your dreams.
I’ll keep you all posted on how Saturday goes, fingers crossed it goes well.
Keep writing, folks!
