Yay! I’ve Submitted

After the regular burns of rejection, I shied away cocooning myself from any more kicks in the teeth. My story ‘When strangers meet’ had received four rejections, and no matter how many times I edited, tweaked, and changed the story, no one wanted it, not even for free.

So did I submit it again? Hell no! I ran for the hills burying myself among new story ideas where I didn’t get any further than my first drafts. I had found many anthologies to create stories for, and I had all the good intentions of submitting, but when it came down to it, I couldn’t do it. I feared rejection, so I would cross out the intended submission and put my first draft on the ever-growing editing pile. Then I would move on to the next deadline, and again, I crossed it out and put my first draft on the editing pile.

I soon began to tire of this pointless process. The stories were churning out, but no one would read them. It was when I was down to my last two deadlines (both end August) that I decided enough was enough. If I was serious about this, I had to submit my stories. So the first was for the Cremona crime competition. I wrote and edited eight times (I’m an over checker). Finally, I printed out my submission, put it in the envelope, and then sent it on its journey. I have had a notification that the submission has been received, so all that’s left to do is wait for it to be torn to shreds.

I have my fingers, toes, and butt cheeks crossed. It’s a good story. Well, I think so. It’s another one of my twist endings, and I’m hoping it does well. First prize would be amazing, but any acceptance will do for my young writing career (look at me Miss Writer lol).

Now all that is left is for me to dive into the large pile of unedited stories, and get them looking glamorous and ready to impress the reader because there’s no point in writing if no one is going to read it. Well, that’s my goal. I write to share with the reader. To allow them for a brief moment to escape their own lives, and delve into someone else’s. Like how many authors have done for me over the years.

Next mission: A Rose Called Hope – This story is close to my heart, it looks into the search for hope, which is a quest I’m continually on.
