My New Playwriting Adventure

My New Playwriting Adventure

Well, it’s not really a new adventure. A long time ago, little Nicole used to like writing plays. I still have the plays hidden away. Like my dream of becoming an author, I also wanted to be a playwright, but I buried it and set out on a more practical life journey. However, that soon changed when I decided to embrace the writing life.

While I have been writing short stories, flash fictions, poems and my novel, I haven’t returned to the playwriting. Playwriting is something that I have wanted to get back into for a while, but when I started seeing submission calls for plays, I decided that now – not tomorrow – was the time to start writing plays again. This idea became more cemented in my mind when I realised that one of my short stories, which I’m desperate to be published, could, in fact, work as a play.

So now I’m buzzing with ideas on how I can change the short story to suit the play format. I’ve also searched the internet for playwriting books and plays to read (I found an Agatha Christie book. It’s called The Mousetrap and Other Plays). I’m looking for playwriting courses, and tips. I’m also on the hunt for plays that I can watch. I just want to get my hands on anything that can make my dream a reality.

It’s crazy, but I can already see my play being performed on stage. It’s an exciting new adventure, and I can’t wait to get started.
